Andrew, Tia Dangler Moir

Greeting every person with a cheer and a warm handshake that she called a mini-hug, Tia, 89, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2018 in Bermuda. Tia is survived by son Rob Moir and wife Toni Czekanski of Somerville, Massachusetts; son David D. Moir and wife Mary Ellen Hoke of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts; as well as grandchildren Jesse Czekanski-Moir, Ryan Czekanski-Moir, Brady Czekanski-Moir, and Molly Moir; sister Margaret Fernandez, many nephews and nieces; best friends Margaret Brown, Janet and David Start; as well as, a collection of multiple generations of loving friends. Born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late David E. and Margaret (Frost) Dangler. Tia lived in Lake Forest, Il, Rochester, NY, Dedham MA, Boston, Wellesley, Cambridge (Neville Place), and Bermuda. Tia summered since her birth with her large family at Sandy House and later hosted many at the beach house in Osterville on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Tia’s positivity and boundless energy made an indelible impression on everyone she met. Tia was a sailor, a bird watcher, an energetic walker, and global traveler making friends where ever she went. Tia’s charitable work is legendary. In the 1960s she continued the family tradition of fund-raising for Frontier Nursing Service for the building of health clinics and to enable nurse-midwifes to ride out on horseback in Kentucky. Tia went on to underwrite The James Baldwin Scholars Program at Hampshire College and Universal Language, a Musical Tribute to Daniel Pearl. She gave generously to environmental education programs, the arts, music, and schools. In Bermuda, Tia supported at least seven charities, most notably house parties for the Bermuda Society of Arts and hosting musicians for the Bermuda Philharmonic Society.
